LOCATION/GETTING THERE The nearest airport is Granada, at 93km. Google “Granada Airport” to see which airlines fly there. See also Almeria and Malaga airports which are near too.

Malaga International Airport is 151km from the house, and is very well served by many airports and airlines from most countries in Europe.

There is a public bus service (google “ALSA”) serving the village of Pitres (2km away) and a taxi service ( around 5€) to take you from there to Atalbeitar.

From Pitres and to Pitres there are 3 buses/day connecting it with Orgiva, which in turn has connections to the major cities. But we recommend hiring a car to be able to appreciate fully what the area has to offer. This is easily organised over the internet. (Google “Car Hire Malaga Airport or Car Hire Granada Airport”). These cars are sometimes surprisingly cheap.

FROM MALAGA:

From Malaga, you need to take the motorway East (signed to Motril,) it seems to be known as both the A7 and the E-15.

Keep on this for over an hour past Nerja and Almuñecar until you come to Salobreña. Just past Salobreña you meet the main road heading north for Granada (A44 or E902). Take this road,  and after about 10 minutes, take the exit signed Orgiva/Las Alpujarras (A346).

Follow signposts to Orgiva, once there, continue through the town, following signs to Lanjaron, until you leave Orgiva by crossing the bridge.

Just after the bridge, take the second turning on the right, for the Poqueira valley  (signed to Carataunas/Trevelez)(A4132).

Keep on this road past Pampaneira and stick with it ( Don’t turn left to Bubion) until you get to Pitres.

Stay on the main road past Pitres, and after 1 km you find the turning to Atalbeitar on the right (signed). This road leads you 2 km down the hill and into Atalbeitar.

You will have to leave the car at the front of the village (luckily cars don´t fit down lanes built for donkeys!), but you can arrive to about 15 metres from the house for unloading only, so moving luggage shouldn’t be a problem. Then please kindly remove the car and park it in the village car park. Welcome home!

FROM GRANADA:

From Granada you take the motorway south towards the coast and the town of Motril.

You turn off the motorway to Lanjaron, las Alpujarras (after about 20 minutes drive). Drive through Lanjaron, and straight on to Orgiva.

Just as you arrive to Orgiva, you pass a BP garage on your left, and take the next turning on your left (just before the bridge), for the Poqueira valley  (signed to Carataunas/Trevelez)(A4132).

Keep on this road past Pampaneira and stick with it ( Don’t turn left to Bubion) until you get to Pitres.

Stay on the main road past Pitres, and after 1 km you find the turning to Atalbeitar on the right (signed).

This road leads you two km down the hill and into Atalbeitar.
