CASA ALMELARA
Casa Almelara is located in the village of Atalbeitar, just minutes from the Sierra Nevada National Park; a dramatic wilderness boasting some of the highest peaks in mainland Spain. Ideal for lovers of beauty and nature, and popular amongst artists and walkers, there are a wide range of outdoor activities available.
Atalbeitar is one of the smallest and best preserved of the Alpujarran villages; a peaceful, car-free oasis where many of the houses still retain their traditional Moorish features. There are great bars and restaurants in the valley.
About the house:
The house has been recently restored using traditional materials in original ways, with beauty and comfort in mind. Chestnut beams, bedrock corners and many unique touches give it a rustic charm.
We, Tom and Carmen (the owners) are both artists, and have delighted in creating a space that is simple but harmonious, spending every winter since 2003 restoring it with all our love and care, so we are very happy when people come to enjoy our work. An important shift came in 2012 when we built an indoor heated swimming pool and steam room, bringing a whole new level of luxury to the experience of Casa Almelara.

About the village
Atalbeitar is one of 7 white, Moorish villages that make up La Taha, a South-facing valley on the slopes of the highest mountain in Spain.
The narrow streets and lanes of the village were designed for donkeys, so cars cannot enter them, making it peaceful and safe for children, with hidden rocky corners and delightful flower-filled gardens for them to explore.
The heart of the village is a charming square (actually more of a triangle!) with a shady Alamo tree, and a water fountain that is fed by a natural spring.
You can unload 14 metres from our door, then park the car a couple of minutes walk away at the entrance of the village.
