Fiestas in Las Alpujarras
Ferreirola: The third weekend of August is the feasts of the Holy Cross.
Fondales: The first week of October to the Virgen del Rosario.
The festival more celebrated in the Alpujarra is San Marcos in Spring. During April 25th it is celebrated with field trips and pilgrimages (called romerias) in some towns. In the town of Berchules the procession is accompanied by animals, cows and horses.
In Orgiva during Lent is the festivity of Christo de la Expiracion. With another very picturesque procession.
Lanjarón by San Juan, June 23 streets are filled water and ham.

A throughout the Alpujarras are traditional Moors and Christians festivities which takes place in the square of some villages with a “theatre” show. Held to coincide with the patron saints. We can enjoy these throughout the summer in Laroles, Juviles, Trevélez, Bubión, Albondón, Cherín, Jorairatar and Picena, the most spectacular the one represented in the village of Valor on 15 September.
The holiday of chestnuts (la Castaña) and La Matanza is in November and December respectively.
Laujar of Andarax has a bullring and sometimes there are events there. Please google it if you are interested.
On January 17th, is the CHISCO, a festivity around a bonfire with roasted bacon and other foods. Atalbeitar celebrates it too.
Finally I should mention the beautiful Summer pilgrimage, departure from Trevélez to the mountain of Mulhacen, leading the Virgen de las Nieves, amazing walk if steep! on August 5th.
