The House

The house has been recently restored using traditional materials in original ways, with beauty and comfort in mind. Chestnut beams, bedrock corners and many unique touches give it a rustic charm.

We, Tom and Carmen ( the owners) are both artists, and have delighted in creating a space that is simple but harmonious, spending the last 19 winters restoring it with all our love and care, and so we are very happy when people come to enjoy our work.

We have built a SWIMMING POOL and it is heated in the colder months. The system we use to purify the water is sand and salt, so your skin and eyes will be kindly treated here. It has also a hydro-massage and swimming against the current system so that you can exercise and feel revitalised and restored. It has a big dressing room with a large walk in shower, and also a beautiful STEAM ROOM, with Iranian tiles.

There is an interior patio in the house, shady and plant-filled to escape the heat of the midday summer sun, where there is a BARBECUE available for your use.
As well as 3 large TERRACES with spectacular VIEWS and plenty of garden furniture.

Get cozy beside the fire, eat out on the terrace under the pergola with the untouched valley beneath you, explore our selection of games, or just relax and read our books.

But we also have a smart television with Netflix, etc. A DVD player and films are available too. There is WIFI and an office area if you need to catch up with your life, or you can work from the terraces whilst enjoying the views…..

There are in the house as well as other suggestions a collection of maps with exciting detailed walks via the moorish paths.

The Village

Atalbeitar, situated in the wonderful Alpujarra valley, is on the South slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

This village has changed little since the time when the Moors lived there, it is one of the very few well preserved villages remaining, a hidden treasure with a magical atmosphere.
It has narrow beautiful streets and a charming square with a water fountain that comes from a natural spring. (The house is also spring fed, with added chlorine).
It is car free (cars are left at the entrance to the village, but you can arrive to within 15m of the house for unloading). This place is great for exploring on foot and for children’s games.
Atalbeitar itself has no shops, but it has a bar or ‘social club’ in the charming square. It opens when its owner Jesus wishes, which is often in the hotter months, but this makes it a bit unpredictable, however he does a grand job of providing for the villages needs, and is very welcoming to visitors.

It is wonderful to sit in the square by the fountain and under the tree, with a cold beer or local wine and listen to the chatter of the villagers and the water of the fountain…

All other amenities are well supplied in the very nearby villages of Pitres, Mecina, Mecinilla, Fondales, Ferreirola, Portugos and Busquitar (see local area page). If you look at a map you’ll find that we are in the middle of them all.
